Autism Case Study
Effects of Low-Level Laser Therapy
in Autism Spectrum Disorder
This study explored the potential benefits of low-level laser therapy (LLLT) for reducing irritability and other symptoms in children and adolescents with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). Forty participants, aged 5-17, received either active treatment or a placebo over a four-week period. The active treatment involved eight 5-minute laser sessions targeting the base of the skull and temporal areas. Results showed that those receiving the active treatment experienced a significant reduction in irritability and other related behaviors, with improvements continuing beyond the treatment period. The study suggests that LLLT could be an effective tool for managing some of the challenging symptoms of ASD, particularly irritability.
